Organic Pesticides, A Safer Solution

If you are health conscious as well as environment conscious, you must have heard about organic pesticides. Today many farms have started using organic pesticides to overcome the ill effects of chemical pesticides. Chemical pesticides are harmful for both the environment and our health.  Chemical fertilizers leach into the soil and enter the water bodies. Thus, they pollute both land and water. These pesticides are non-biodegradable. They enter food chain causing adverse effects.

It is best for you to grow organic fruits, vegetables and herbs in your kitchen garden. Organic food is nutritious, tasty and healthy. There are many naturally occurring substances that can control pests. Unlike chemical pests, they have no harmful effects on friendly organisms that are good for your garden. Also, chemical pesticides contain substances that can be very harmful for your children. Once you switch to natural pesticides, you do not have to worry about the same. Your garden is free from harmful chemicals.

Some Natural Pesticides

Some of the natural pesticides that you can use in your garden are as below.

Neem: Neem is a powerful insecticide. It is derived from Azadiracta indica juss. You can use Neem oil to keep your garden insect free. You should make a mixture of water, neem oil and soap and spray it on your plants.

Alliums: Onion and garlic can be used to destroy insects. You have to crush several cloves of garlic and add it to a gallon of water. For more effectiveness, you can add crushed garlic cloves to vegetable oil or tea and spray on your plants. This mixture is also effective in paralyzing flying insects.

Soap solution: Spray the mixture of few soap drops and water on your plants to destroy the insects. You should not add large quantities of soap to the water. Keep the soap solution mild otherwise it may effect plant growth.

Hot peppers: Crush some hot peppers and add water to it. For greater effectiveness add few drops of soap. Spray it on your plants. It will keep bugs at bay.

There are many other organic pesticides. Ready-made organic pesticides are also available in the market. But you should always read their instructions carefully before using them.
