Organic Natural Foods – Are They Really Helpful?
Organic natural foods are produced without the use of chemicals and synthetic substances. Organic farming is a natural way of farming. If you compare organic food with the conventionally produced food, there are no major differences with regard to safety or nutritional benefits. Even the fat content in many organic food items such as milk, butter and meat is of the same level as the conventionally grown foods.
However, there are many health benefits that encourage consumers to buy organic or natural foods rather than conventionally grown foods. Those people who are allergic to specific food items or preservatives can switch to organic foods. Today organic baby food is also available that does not contain the pesticide residues commonly found in conventional baby foods.
With the use of pesticides during farming of food products, the major nutrients that are affected are vitamin C, vitamin B and beta carotene. Vitamin C has proven helpful in preventing and treating cancers while beta carotene is an effective stimulant of the immune system. By choosing organic natural foods, you can have fruits and vegetables without pesticides and other harmful chemicals. Recent studies suggest that by using organically grown foods, you can prevent heart diseases. Studies also suggest that organic foods have high levels of mineral nutrients and much lower levels of heavy metals as compared to non-organic food.

- Human body needs calcium for strong bones, organic foods contain 63% higher amounts of calcium.
- To protect ourselves from damages by environmental chemicals, an antioxidant nutrient Selenium is useful. Organic foods have on an average 390% of higher Selenium.
- Chromium was found to be almost 78% higher in organic foods. The deficiency of this micronutrient can cause diabetes and hardening of arteries.
- Another important nutrient is Magnesium, which reduces heart attack deaths, muscle spasms, and also eases the PMS symptoms. On an average, organic food contains 138% higher Magnesium.
- Two very important nutrients that help in preventing osteoporosis are Calcium and Boron. Organic foods have 70% higher levels of Boron.
- To treat certain types of depression, Lithium is used. Lithium averaged 188% higher in organic foods.
If you closely observe the above list of nutrients, you would find them on many vitamin and mineral supplements prescribed by your doctor. Instead of spending money on the prescribed supplements it is better to go for organic natural foods.
